For my first time in Venice, it was
simply amazing. The busy canals are legendary and it was so good to be let
loose in the town to walk to the famous Rialto Bridge. In our walk to the
bridge we saw so many shops filled to the brim with the iconic Venetian glass,
which by the way, is extremely expensive. Although in the cheap “Moroccan”
stalls I managed to get something for friends. Somehow we managed to end up on
the other side of the river without crossing the Rialto Bridge, but caught back
up to the group anyway. We went to the Famous Saint Marco plaza and Church,
which I personally believe the plaza out shone the Church. The most expensive
thing we could find was a near 38,000 euros. We caught a ferry back to the
station, which was a fantastic way to see Venice.
After a gruelling over night train
ride we got to Beaucaire, southern France. Our “holiday inside our holiday.” The
hotel is amazing, which FREE wifi and a awesome pool. The highlights for
Beaucaire are the Pont du Gard, the Maison Carrée. The Pont Du Gard takes your
breath away, and took a little something more from JAdams. The Maison Carrée was
a stand out for me because we study it in class and it was so surreal to be
seeing something we have been studying for a term.
Avignon offered us the Palais des
Papes, which is a thriving town still inside the walls of the fortress. We got
lost a bit on the way, but it was just a crazy way to take first place in the
convoy. And today we went to Orange and we visited the amazingly well preserved
theatre, which Joe demonstrated the acoustics very well. Next was the Arch of
Augustus which I did a speech on, and which went well, and it looked
unbelievable.
