Beaucaire

We arrived in avignon on the 3rd of may after a not so great overnight train ride from Venice. After waiting around for a little while we got in our vans and headed to beaucaire. After going to the supermarket Carrefour, we had a short tour of beaucaire where we saw some amazing buildings including a quick look at beaucaire castle and many fascinating old buildings. Then we returned to the hotel where we relaxed for a while in the pool. After a delicious dinner we went to sleep.

The next day after having a relatively decent sleep in we had breakfast and headed out once again to the supermarket. After stocking up here for lunch we headed to pont du gard. Pont du gard is an incredible aqueduct and one of my favourite sights around beaucaire. After having a good look at the bridge some of us decided to have a shirt swim in the freezing river. When jack dived in he smacked his head and split it open and there was blood everywhere ( luckily it wasn't really too sore for him). Then we drove to nîmes where after driving around for over 30 minutes we finally found parks. Then while jack went to see to his head with mr Buckingham, mr Boyce showed us around the ampitheatre and then Wendy up with jack and mr Buckingham At the maison carrée which is a Romanesque temple. This temple was great to see as it has been kept in such good condition. By now we had missed our booked in time at the roman vineyard so we returned to our hotel to relax for the rest of the day.

On Sunday after having breakfast we ventured out to a market to get lunch because in France Sunday is still a sacred day and most shops are closed. Then we went out to an old roman town which was fascinating to see. Then we went up to another old medieval town on top of a mountain which was quite interesting as it is still inhabited, although we didn't see all of it because of a hefty fee to see the rest. Then we headed back to tarascon castle which was probably my favourite ace in the beaucaire area. I loved going through the tower and looking at all the different rooms and how old castles looked like. The we visited a church across the road which was pretty good but didn't live up to the 4 major roman churches. The. After a short trip to beaucaire castle where pretty much everything was closed we returned to our hotel.

On Monday we headed out to Avignon first. There we saw the palais des papes where the French popes resided. We also saw the pont d'avignon which is a bridge which partially spans over the river rhone but we didn't Actually go into the bridge as once again the prices were ridiculous. The. We headed over to Arles where we saw another church and had a small walk along the waterfront before we returned back to hotel again.

Finally today we went after visiting the supermarket to Orange. Here we had a audio tour through the théâtre d'Auguste which was quite impressive as it is incredibly well preserved and the acoustics in the theatre are incredible, we even say at the back while joe read his speech from by the stage. Then we visited the museum across the road which was resemblu small but had some very interesting Artifacts like a couple of the mosaics and busts and paintings. Then we took a roundabout route to l'Arche which was an impressive triple arched structure depicting scenes from the conquests if the Gauls and the Germans. Then we returned to beaucaire for the rest if the day to relax.
