The sites we went to on our travels in Greece included Delphi,
the Acropolis, Mycenae and Corinth. Out of all four sites, my all time
favourite was Delphi, as having learnt about it in Classics last year, it
really interested me and I was very excited to experience it for myself.
When we arrived in Delphi even the air around us was
exciting. We got to experience the “blue haze of Delphi” for ourselves, and we
weren’t let down as on arriving at the stadium at the top, we got a real view
of the valley. I really enjoyed viewing the Temple of Apollo, and also the theatre
above it. Standing at the bottom of the theatre I got an idea of what the
people in the plays put on there would have experienced.
Athens as a city was much dirtier than I had expected. There
were tonnes of pick-pockets and homeless men, as well as many stray dogs that I
had to resist touching since they looked very ill and I would probably contract
several diseases if I succumbed to my natural urge to pat them.
The heat in Greece has been very taxing for me, so I am glad
I came on the first trip, and not the last! I am really looking forward to Rome
and Venice in particular now!
